Versatility and functionality blends for the best in industrial-inspired Danish design
Danish brand Vipp started with a pedal bin that was never intended for sale when Holger Nielsen, a metal spinner, made a custom bin for use in his wife’s hairdressing salon in 1939. Customers were so taken by its industrial design and functionality that they asked Neilson to make additional bins to use in their husbands’ medical and dental clinics.
From these humble beginnings, the Vipp brand was born. Today, Vipp is still a family-owned company but has expanded from the now-iconic pedal bin - which became a fixture across most Danish dentist’ and doctors’ practices - to a full-blown design universe of accessories, furniture, and kitchens beloved of design aficionados everywhere.
In recent years, Vipp has exhibited at the Louvre in Paris and collaborated with many international designers, including Sir Terence Conran, Christian Lacroix, and Philippe Starck, to create exclusive designs that have raised significant sums for charitable organisations.
